YTK not loading Messy
« on: November 30, 2011, 08:22:28 pm »
I hadn't used YTK because I had the dreaded McCafe Security. Ditched that for the new Norton Security 2011. Uninstalled McCafe, YTK and Yahoo Messenger and installed Norton and then the new YTK and Messy 10.0.0.1270. YTK comes up but a window pops up says Messy has crashed with the following info contained in the box; Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   APPCRASH
  Application Name:   YahooMessenger.exe
  Application Version:   10.0.0.1270
  Application Timestamp:   4c053ffe
  Fault Module Name:   StackHash_0a9e
  Fault Module Version:   0.0.0.0
  Fault Module Timestamp:   00000000
  Exception Code:   c0000005
  Exception Offset:   ec892e39
  OS Version:   6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
  Locale ID:   1033
  Additional Information 1:   0a9e
  Additional Information 2:   0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
  Additional Information 3:   0a9e
  Additional Information 4:   0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
I clicked on and ran both YTK and Messy as Administrator.  So can one of you help  me out with this please. Thanks, Grasshopper.....as an after thought.....YTK will start up and if you start Messy by itself it will start....just not together.

Try opening YTK Enhanced in Safe Mode.

Restart your computer
Press F8
At the Safe Mode screen select Safe Mode with Networking
Once at your desktop open YTK Enhanced

If it opens without issues. Then your security software is causing an issue.

Are you using Norton Anti-Virus or Norton Internet Security 2011?

Sounds like the firewall is blocking YTK Enhanced.

SomeGuy....I'm using the Norton Security Suite offered free by Comcast. I had to get rid of the McCafe. I "think" I allowed YTK and Messy under the Firewall setting "Program Rules". I say think because I just DL'ed the program but see them in the Program Rules after adding them.

Does it say Auto, Allow, Block on the right side? If so, set it to Allow.

I can't remember what the settings looked like on Norton 2011. They're a bit different from 2012.

If you see Program Control that's the place to be.

Yet Messy crashes as YTK is opening it. I'd appreciate it if you could give this some thought and help me out, I've missed using YTK and/or the YTK Pro.....I have both. Maybe one of the other Administrators have a different perspective on this. Irreguardless....I appreciate your help so far.

You might want to make sure you've got all of the requirements listed here ~> http://www.ytk.smfnew.com/index.php?topic=1442.0

That may take me a little while but, if after all of that page, I'm still having problems I'll get back to you. I really appreciate your taking the time to lead some of the not-so-savvy folks along......as you can tell, we need the help. I'll drop you a note if it all works out. Merry Christmas to you and the rest of YTK. Grasshopper

The exception error you experienced in your first post. Is caused by Yahoo! Messenger.

Quote
Application Name:   YahooMessenger.exe

So a clean install may help. The link I posted above contains "Yahoo! Messenger Cache Cleaner". Download that tool.

Uninstall Yahoo! Messenger via Programs and Features in the Control Panel. Then run Yahoo! Messenger Cache Cleaner as administrator. Restart your PC.

Make sure you've got all of the requirements/dependencies for Yahoo! Messenger. Download Yahoo! Messenger and install it.

Alright SomeGuyFromCanada.....I actually ended up doing the above several times because it wasnt working....Messenger still crashed on startup with YTK, even with different builds of Yahoo.....I DL'ed 4 versions, they all crashed. I used all the links each time from the dependancies section with the exception of "Yahoo! Audio Conferencing Setup Wizard --> http://download.yahoo.com/dl/update/yacswiz.exe | http://ytkpro.com/YM_Resources/yacswiz.exe " which keeps coming back as IE page not found. I'll admit to a lack of savvy with the IBM Compatibles ( Windows ) but this acts like an extension conflict in Mac. Easier to find the culpert in Mac and be rid of it. Why'd I buy a Dell again? Ultimately, nothing changed for me and I know I did what you suggested the right way....several times. I'd appreciate any help you can lend. Have a great day. Grasshopper

Does it work without issue in Safe Mode with Networking?

Is Windows Defender running by chance?

SomeGuyFromCanada......YTK does start Messenger up without crashing in safe mode with networking, and Windows Defender ( I'd guess thats security ) isn't running. After I did a search of my computer a box popped up asking if I'd like to turn it on, so am assuming its off. I apologise for the length of this thread but appreciate your help. Grasshopper
