I am wondering if McAfee was completely removed from your system. Norton generally does not give issues with YTK.

Something on your system seems to be preventing proper operation of YTK and Yahoo! Messenger.

Sounds reasonable.....its established I love IBM Compatibles! I removed McAfee by the Programs and Features...is there a better way? I will search while you think. And thank you again for your time. Grasshopper....a latter entry...I searched and deleted everything that came up for McAfee....YTK/Messenger still crashed.

As an update...I found and did what Yahoo recommends related to my problem in this thread. http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?locale=en_US&page=content&y=PROD_MSNG&id=SLN2001 It was informative and took a bit and had no effect that I saw ultimately. Wondering if anyone has any other ideas? Thanks, Grasshopper

It's definitely something on your system (security software). Because whenever you try Safe Mode with Networking. It works perfectly fine as you've stated in previous posts.

The only thing that would prevent Yahoo! Messenger from starting up with YTK. Is a) Firewall b) HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System) which Norton doesn't have as far as I know. They may have it but call it something else. McAfee may have HIPS as well. If McAfee wasn't uninstalled properly some of it's program may be stopping things from working properly i.e. Yahoo! Messenger and YTK.

Check the programs in your msconfig to see what is running at Startup.

Press the Windows button and R. Type msconfig and click OK. Click Startup and see if there is any mention of McAfee. Or anything security related outside of Norton/Symantec. If so, uncheck those programs. Click Apply and OK. Restart your PC.

One other thing to try;
Press the Windows key and R, Type Regedit click OK.
Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\YTKE in your registry and scroll to the bottom of the right side.
Look for YMPath right click it and click Modify enter C:\Program Files (x86)\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe under Value data next click OK. Close the Registry Editor.

The only other thing I could suggest is a reformat. Why? A reformat would guarantee that left over pieces of software i.e. McAfee would be gone completely.
