Yahoo! Web Messenger Being Discontinued!
« on: September 21, 2011, 03:22:26 am »
I logged in Yahoo! Web Messenger earlier and it seems Yahoo's discontinuing the Web Messenger in favor of Yahoo! Mail's built-in version. I can't say for certain whether or not this will disrupt YMSGv102 but my guess is it won't have any effect at all. Who knows, Yahoo may roll out YMSGv103. ;)

Here's the message you're given as a IM after logging into Yahoo! Web Messenger...

Yahoo! Web Messenger will no longer be supported after 2011-11-01, but you can continue to access Yahoo! Messenger through a web browser within Yahoo! Mail at http://mail.yahoo.com . To use the latest features of Yahoo! Messenger to video call, play games and chat with your Facebook friends, download the desktop client here http://messenger.yahoo.com/win .

We'll keep this post updated as time passes!

If you log into YMSG protocol version 102 with either the cookie login (which is meant for 102) or the standard SSL YMSG login then you'll get this PM packet delivered as an offline each time you sign in. Not only will this mean that YMSGv102 will be gone, it may mean that we now have only one way to login to the YMSG chat server (the standard SSL login). There's no point in keeping the service 550 cookie login packet around if they're discontinuing 102 but we'll see... time will tell whether or not the "universal cookie login" aka the "magic cookie login", used for fast connects and resumes, will still be usable.

Another slick move by Yahoo! ::)

Yahoo! Web Messenger is officially dead.

http://messenger.yahoo.com/platform/web/

It now directs you to Yahoo! Messenger for Yahoo! Mail.

*If you're using YMSGv102 and you cannot connect change it to YMSGv18 or lower (depending on your version of Yahoo! Messenger).
