Private Messaging
« on: March 29, 2012, 09:58:53 pm »
Wasn't sure where to put this issue,  here or in Messenger as I'm not sure which is responsible for the problem.

Recently, I have had a problem receiving text in private messages. It will show the individual typing but no text shows up.

I checked the settings for private messages in both Safelisted and Chat Users and they  have not changed. They are still the same as before.

The only way to get the messages is to add the person, but I don't want to add someone then turn around and have to delete them or for that matter add a bunch of people just to read the messages.

Anybody else out there experiencing this????

Yahoo server-side issue that's been happening to a lot of people. You can try adding them or creating a new ID and hope it works. Otherwise, nothing can be done.

This is likely happening because you have the "Ignore anyone who is not in my Yahoo! Contacts" setting enabled within Messenger's preferences. This is a sure sign of it when you just get TYPING notifications and the messages are being blocked (they're actually not even being sent to you at all). Since they're not being sent to you then by adding them they're on your buddy list and as a result the chat servers forward their privates messages to you.

I discussed this setting's new chat server-side behavior not too long ago (BNF - Block Non-Friends) and I still recommend using it with YMSGv102 for maximum boot protection until the next update is out. When this BNF option is enabled then it does break the "chat users" and "safe list" zones because Yahoo! Messenger doesn't have this functionality itself, it's friends-only communication or allowing everybody. The new build of YTK-E will have this feature built-in without the need for enabling the option in Messenger and an easy way to disable it in real-time. It's possible for me to recreate the Chat Users and Safe List groups/zones when using this new server-side feature (which does help against PM floods, 0xD3 packets, games packets etc) but Yahoo! will have to correct a couple things first since there's some bugs.

It's happening to people with that setting turned off. I suspect there's some kind of server-side bug where that new 'filter' kicks in when it shouldn't.

Actually I do NOT have "Ignore anyone not in my yahoo contacts" checked off.

Only the "Ignore anyone in the list below.

I used to get pm's going to the "review box" but that has not been functional for quite sometime either.

May be a good thing for now but I literally do not receive any pm's whatsoever now, and as I mentioned before if I initiate them I only see the "user typing" message.

Yeah, it's a known issue that I've seen multiple people having the last few months. Unfortunately, there's no workaround or fix for it since it's server-side. It's an issue that's happened on and off for years now.
